Children's Miracle Network

O’Brien Software Services, Inc. has volunteered
its Web development and design services to design a Web site for
the RE/MAX Suburban Spring Marketplace fundraiser, which benefits
the Children’s Miracle Network.
The Spring Marketplace fundraiser will be held
at the Kingwood Country Club on Monday, March 7, 2005. The event
will feature a fashion show and marketplace booths.
About the Children’s Miracle Network
The Children's
Miracle Network, the alliance of premier hospitals for children,
is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising
funds for 170 children's hospitals across North America. Each year
these non-profit hospitals provide the finest care, research and
community outreach to help millions of children with diseases and
injuries of every kind.
The 170 Children's Miracle Network hospitals
are there 24 hours a day to help kids of every age and background
overcome every imaginable disease and injury-from asthma and broken
bones to cancer, sickle cell anemia, pediatric AIDS, muscular dystrophy
and serious injuries.
Through its year-round efforts to help hospitalized
kids, Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $2.2 billion
to date, most of which is donated a dollar or two at a time by caring
individuals across North America.

President James O’Brien to Teach Web
Design Course at Rice University
President James O’Brien will be teaching “The
Basics of Web Design for Professionals” at Rice University’s School
of Continuing Studies from April 21-May 26, 2005.
To launch an inviting and serviceable Web site,
a designer must be aware of basic Web design principles. Understanding
well-established rules will enable you to make prudent choices about
content, colors, graphics, and site navigation. In this course for
designers, managers, or other professionals involved in the creation
or design of Web sites, participants will learn principles employed
by some of the Internet’s most successful designers and will obtain
a framework for designing user-friendly sites. From defining the
purpose of your site to learning how to attract visitors, participants
will be taken
step by step through the Web design process. Note: This course is
not oriented to teaching the use of any particular software.
Topics will include the following:
- Site organization and management.
- Site navigation and hierarchies.
- Computer graphics, color, and typography.
Design principles.
- Accessibility for people with disabilities.
- Web design toolbox. Software, code, WYSIWYG
editors, content management systems.
- Search engine optimization. Principles and
techniques.
Course Schedule & Fees:
- Six Thursdays, April 21-May 26, 6:00-9:00
p.m.
- Fee: $325.
